Algonquin Provincial Park is the oldest and most famous park in Ontario, stretching across 7,723 Sq Kms of wilderness. Visitors have a chance to see beavers, moose and bear in their natural habitats, and the park echoes with hauntingly beautiful calls from the loon.  Every August, nightly "wolf howls" are organized whereby visitors attempt to elicit answer from these native animals by imitating their cries. Opportunities for outdoor activities are plentiful; most visitors like to try one of the canoe routes through the forested interior that has over a thousand km's of canoe trails.  The canoe routes are highly organized and well-marked, ranging from beginner and family routes, some as short as 6km to 70KM treks for the more experienced. Lake Opeongo is one of the largest lakes in the park, is famous for its abundance of lake trout and smallmouth bass. You'll also find the Algonquin Gallery with exhibits from various international artists with a focus on wildlife and nature.
